Preheating your oven is a crucial step for achieving perfectly cooked Bacon-Wrapped BBQ Chicken Thighs. The optimal temperature for this recipe is 400°F (204°C). Preheating allows the chicken to start cooking immediately, ensuring that the bacon crisps up while the chicken remains juicy and tender inside. A properly heated oven also promotes even cooking throughout the dish. If you place your chicken in a cold oven, you risk uneven cooking, leading to dry chicken or undercooked bacon. So, while you prepare the chicken and wrap it in bacon, make sure to set your oven to preheat.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs

8 slices of thick-cut bacon

1 cup BBQ sauce (your choice of flavor)

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp salt

Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix together smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, then rub the spice mixture evenly over the chicken thighs.

Wrap with Bacon: Take 2 slices of bacon per chicken thigh and wrap them around each thigh, ensuring that the ends of the bacon are tucked underneath so they don’t unravel during cooking.

Bake the Chicken: Place the bacon-wrapped chicken thighs in a baking dish or onto a lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F/74°C) and the bacon is crispy.

Add BBQ Sauce: During the last 5 minutes of baking, brush a generous layer of BBQ sauce over each chicken thigh, then return them to the oven to caramelize.

Rest and Serve: Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, slice, and serve with additional BBQ sauce on the side.
